The Municipality of Chaves is located in northern Portugal in the province of Tras-os-Montes, district of Vila Real, the upper Tâmega.
The headquarters of the Municipality is the city of Chaves that far about 64 km from the capital district (Vila Real) and 10 km from border with Spain and 470 km from Lisbon.
The Municipality has 43,668 inhabitants (census of 2001), an area of 612.12 km2, and is formed by 51 parishes.
It is a surprising county with hills, mountains and verdant valleys, where we find beautiful villages of granite, some retaining all its medieval charm other, with houses of modern construction.
The city is crossed by the River Tamêga is born in Spain’s Sierra de S. Mamede around Monterrey (Verin).
It is busy and bustling with life in the city of Chaves where nothing missing, many services, trade and traditional supermarkets, for the local population and neighbours of Galicia, secondary schools, university, vocational school, school of nursing.
